As a feshman attending college for the first time in the fall of 2026, I knew that sexual assault and rape is a common issue on college campuses. So I decided to provide an opportunity for young adults and teens going to college or entering the workforce to learn how to defend themselves. With this idea in mind, I decided to make this the central focus of my Girl Scouts Gold Award Project.
In the Summer of 2026, I hosted a self-defense clinic for high school students and young adults, where they would be taught by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, Master Educator, 2x World Ranked BJJ Competitor, Health & Wellness Leader, Caroline Degon. I also created a cirriculum to be implemented into high school Health and P.E. classes to raise awareness of sexual assault on college campuses, provide tips for safety, and self-defense skills. I now have created this website to reach a even wider audience to increase personal safety.
I am a 2026 graduate of Newtown High School and have been a Girl Scout from kindergarten till senior year. Throughout the years I have earned my Bronze and Silver Award with Girl Scouts. For my Silver Award, my troop mates and I built a library with books and games for a newly built safe house with The Center for Family Justice. After having involvement with CFJ, I knew I wanted my Gold Award to be about a similar topic, which ultimately ended with me hosting an event to raise awareness about sexual assault, specifically on college campuses.
